Roberts SOLARDAP-P Solar Powered DAB Radio wth Rechargeable Battery Pack - Pink
solarDAB is the world's first solar powered DAB radio. This stylish and compact portable radio has a solar panel integrated into the top of the unit which absorbs direct sunlight in order to power the radio. There is a level indicator on the diplay screen that shows the strength of the solar level being absorbed, if the level is over half, the unit is being powered directly by the sun. The built in rechargeable battery pack is being continuously charged whilst the radio is in direct sunlight. Once charged, the batteries will last up to 27 hours, the radio can then be used in complete darkness for this period until it will need re-charging either by sunlight or the mains adaptor.

I bought this DAB solar radio for my husband's birthday primarily to take on family camping holidays but it's proved much more useful than that!!
Since being fully charged it's given my husband many hours of listening pleasure whilst being up his ladder painting the hallway, stairs and landing and listening to the World cup on Talk Sport or 5 Live. We get an excellent reception in our area (which we don't on the FM channels), so I'm just hoping the same can be said while we're away camping with the nippers!
He's now very enthusiastic about doing his DIY jobs, so altogether I think it was an environmental break through on so many levels. No expensive and corrosive batteries to repeatedly buy and dispose of plus peace and tranquility while my house is being transformed into the palace I so obviously deserve :-D
Blissfully relaxed of Cardiff xx

Roberts DAB / FM Digital Solar Radio - Black i have found this radio is very good,i cannot fault it.i have even had it in the car,to try the dab,and worked. [ten out ten] dab is very good, its picks dab stations with ease.if anyone wanting to buy a new radio,i would recommend very highly.

I bought the radio for camping, gardening etc.
The sound quality is good, its small enough to be portable and the Aux-in is an additional bonus.
Battery life is very good but less so if you turn the volume up high. I managed 3 days without it running out when on a boating weekend. I'd recommend that you take spare batteries just in case it does run out.
My only niggle was that the power-on button is very pronounced so that it will switch on when in my bag. However, I've now discovered that there is a space in the battery compartment so that you can take a battery out and store it to prevent accidental switching on.
Overall, a brilliant little radio that now goes everywhere with me. BBC6 Music whilst camping and gardening - Heaven!!

Almost bought the 'old' model at the same price until I read reviews, the new version is great and appears to have incorporated all the points raised by reviewers of the original model.
Overall quality is excellent, it is simple to use, sounds great and provides almost complete flexibility as regards power supply. Battery life is exceptional, even on cloudy days or indoors when the solar panel cannot operate to full potential.
This is a replacement for our existing 'portable' DAB radio which lasts an average of six hours using six 'D' batteries.
You may think the price is a bit steep, but I am going to save a small fortune in batteries alone.

Being a owner of a a wind up DAB radio I was excited to see roberts release a solar radio as its a lot less tiring on the arm whilst still being good for mother earth! Its good to see they have released the solarDAB 2 with an FM option as that was one thing that put me off buying their original model was the lack of FM.
As you would expect from a roberts the build quality is excellent (you can see why the queen likes them!) and the sound quality is top notch (nice and rich, although no tone control). There is even a small recessed carry handle in the back which a reviewer flagged up as a dissapointing omission from the first solarDAB.
Overall this is a very impressive great value update of the first solarDAB and comes highly recommended.
feel the power!

WE bought this radio to replace an elderly, battery-fed Sony for use in the bathroom - 'Today' programme, Classic FM mainly. Finding it time-consuming to recharge the batteries for the old radio was bad enough, but then it started to crackle and drop off the signal - until shaken! We had thought of a DAB radio before but had been put off by shop assistants who doubted the strength of the signal in our area, plus our own research on the internet which suggested we were in a poor-ish reception area. Consequently we put off buying such a radio, but did look at non-DAB solar powered examples. Very recently a Google search led me to the Roberts radio of this review. As it had an FM capability and was also Solar - powered, it fitted the bill - my husband and I had 'written off' the DAB facility because of warnings mentioned above.
When it arrived I charged up the internal batteries, put the radio in the usual position on a shelf in the bathroom and switched on. First impressions were of a very good sound quality and of a very well finished, attractive radio. Instructions were comprehensive and easy to follow. While reading these I glanced at the DAB tuning instructions and thought "nothing ventured, nothing gained". To our great delight, the Roberts very quickly tuned in to Radio 4 and Classic FM, with a strong signal (strength of which can be checked in the display panel on the radio, along with many other aspects of the machine.
To sum up - the Roberts Solar DAB 2 radio is absolutely excellent. It looks good, performs superbly and has a solid, reassuring feel to it. It is also fairly small, with a very useful indent at the rear to allow it to be picked up and carried easily. It charges very successfully on the window sill from sunlight through frosted glass. It is so good we have decided to buy another one for use downstairs, in the kitchen / conservatory. We have decided to pre-order a green one (due out in early September). I would thoroughly recommend this radio to anyone.

I first saw this radio reviewed in 'The Times' with a glowing recommendation. I have needed a radio in the bathroom and garden for quite a while and this certainly
fits the bill. I have no complaints other than it would be good to be able to adjust the tone as it's just a little 'soft' - good for music perhaps but I could do with a bit more 'edge' to the speech-based Radio 4; however, I still give it 5 out of 5!

I bought this for my mum for her birthday and she is really happy with it. It is quite compact so can be moved around very easily and she really likes the fact that she can take it into the garden without having to plug it in or worry about the batteries running out.
The sound is very good too. A great, versatile radio.

This radio arrived on the date notified by the seller.
Am really pleased with it; easy to use and set up; picks up loads more stations that my old DAB radio. Surprisingly good sound for its size.
My house is situated directly North/South, so after initial 24 hour charging I have found that I can leave it (with volume turned right down for maximum charge) on sunny windowsill at front of house first thing while I walk the dogs, then it seems to be fully charged for me to use in my home office on the "dark side" of the house...
I love the design and colour; am trying to justify the expense of buying another one as I love it so much when actually it is so neat and portable one set is fine for all my needs!
I see on the Roberts home page that a green model is made but cannot find where to buy one;Amazon and other sites don't seem to offer it..

What a great little radio!! I can take it anywhere in the house or outside and still get good reception. And then leave it in a sunny spot to charge up whilst I'm not using it. I love free energy!! Plenty of stations, plenty of presets and very easy to use. Magic!

This little pink DAB radio is the best purchase I have made in ages. It even charges in natural light not just sunlight. We have it on the table in the garden at the weekend when we are eating breakfast or in the beach hut when we are chilling out there. Makes us want to start using solar power to run our home.

Great product - well loved by daughter - boyfriend isn't too happy with the colour! She says it is great and works without full sun
