Hilkinson Ruper Magnifier x10 x20

Buy Cheap Hilkinson Ruper Magnifier x10 x20

Buy Low Price From Here Now

These High Power pocket magnifiers are used for the close inspection of such items as circuit boards, hallmarks, stamps, watermarks and precious stones. Of very compact size, the lenses of these robust magnifiers are protected by revolving into the metal cover. Frequently used by gemologists, stamp collectors, coin collectors, collectors of antiques bearing hallmarks, geologists and botanists, these magnifiers have a multitude of applications.

Why Ruper? The story goes that when first manufactured for Hilkinson in Japan in the mid-fifties they were to be called Super Magnifiers. An unfortunate typo changed this to Ruper Magnifier. Over 50 years later, the Hilkinson models are still made in the same factory and they are still known as Rupers.

"Olympus 1.7 Tele lens used with SP590UZ" 2009-11-17
By Don Davis (Coulsdon, Surrey, England)
I bought the TCON-17 to use with my SP590UZ, giving an overall 44x optical zoom, as good as my birding binoculars and hugely greater than any other camera I've had, and achieved at far less cost than anything else I've come across. I'm still getting used to it but I'm generally pleased with it. Minus points: (i) they recommend using a tripod for this magnification, but the extra weight in front of the camera's centre of gravity creates its own problems, and I've actually had better results hand-holding it, (ii) in poor light, distant objects are not as sharply focused as I'd like, (iii) because of the need for the adapter, it takes a bit of time to connect it up to the camera, but leaving the adapter permanently coupled isn't the answer because it leaves one end of the lens unprotected. Plus points: (i) the lens is compact and comes in its own protective bag with caps and fits neatly into my existing equipment bag, (ii) both the lens and the adapter are robust and well made and the screw threads fit well, (iii) the (for me unprecedented) magnification has opened up potential that I'm only just getting to grips with. I've already got some wildlife shots I'm very pleased with using this kit that simply wouldn't have been worthwhile without it, or would have required much more expensive kit.

"Works with Panasonic cameras also" 2008-07-16
By R. Fleming (Camberley, UK)
Having tried and failed to get the dmw-lt55 for my Panasonic Lumix FZ8, I learnt that this lens also fits the bill. You require the Panasonic dmw-la2 adaptor, but the Olympus Tcon 17 is a) much cheaper than the dmw-lt55 and b) is more widely available. A win-win. It certainly saved me at least £30 on the best Panasonic offer, which usually came back as out of stock anyway. Can also be used on the more advanced FZ18.

"does little to improve the zoom on an Olympus SP550UZ" 2008-01-13
By I-ONLY-WANT-VINYL! (UK)
I bought the adapter (BE warned, you have to also buy the HUGE adapter to fit lenses to an sp550uz) and tele lens for my Olympus SP550uz superzoom and was VERY disappointed. The extra magnification with the tele lens is hardly noticeable, probably because the sp550uz has great optical zoom anyway. I ended up returning the adapter and tele lens for refund, the sp550uz camera is much better just used on its own. Maybe this tele lens and adapter is best suited for other models as other reviewers seemed to fair better than me.

My advice is if you have an sp550uz keep your money and use the camera as it comes, pics are much bettter that way, the tele conversion and its monstrous adaptor will give you little extra benefit and it weighs a ton!

"TCON-17 1.7x Zoom (Tele conversion) Lens made by Olympus" 2007-11-01
By DR (Lincolnshire, UK)
After using my Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom digital camera for over 3 years, I have been very satisfied with the results. One of the camera's best features is it's impressive 10x optical zoom. After careful consideration I decided to buy an adapter ring (CLA-4)and upgrade the zoom to a whopping 17x zoom using the quite expensive TCON-17. The results are just as pleasing using the lens as the quality of the shots produced by the camera without an additional lens.

Positive Points:

The lens is well made, easy to screw on to the adapter and produces good quality shots. It has a nice feel to it and is easy to hold. It comes with a leather pouch and two caps; one for the end that attaches to an adapter and one for the actual large lens end. Though the lens is only supposed to be used at it's full extent as recommended, using it at less than this still produces clear, sharp images and also creates a ring of black background around the image creating almost like a plate design that can look very attractive, especially with landscape shots. It can be used for non-Olympus digital cameras such as Panasonic digital cameras.

Negative points:

Sometimes when zoomed fully in the camera cannot always focus on the subject. The lens is quite heavy. If shooting in poor light conditions or indoors the built in flash of the Olympus C-765 UZ will not be powerful enough as you will be shooting things further away to usual. To me the lens seems expensive but if you take alot of far zoom photographs it may be worth it and eventually pay for itself as oppose to upgrading to an SLR.

Practicality:

The lens is of more use when taking outdoor shots in a source of good, natural light, as oppose to indoor shots. The built in flash of the camera is not powerful enough to light the subject, therefore it may well be worth purchasing an external flash. The lens itself weighs about the same as the camera and so when walking around it is best to make sure you have the strap around your neck and you hold the camera as the unit points downwards due to the weight of the lens. The body is made from metal and the lens only comes in black which stands out if you are using a silver camera. The quality of the lens seems fine with no blemishes and the exterior is metal and keeps cool thus the unit is nice to hold. It can become a pain when having to carry the lens around separately so it will be worth purchasing a carry case large enough for the additional lens and it quickly becomes apparent of the time it takes to screw the lens on and off the adapter and also then attaching and deattaching this to the camera itself. Leaving the adapter connected to the lens would be the best idea but then the lens is unprotected at the adapter end as the cap does not fit the smaller screw end of the adapter. Also if storing the lens in the pouch, this is quite tight fitting and so the lens cover for the actual lens end often comes off when trying to get the lens out or putting it back away.

Summary:

All in all it does what it says on the tin by producing good quality photos and has a nice smooth feel to it. I rate it 4/5 for taking photos of people or landscapes far in the distant that your built in optical zoom will not use but highly recommend you buy a case to store it in and only buy it if you are a keen photographer as it is an expensive accessory if it is only to be used a few times.

"A good piece of kit" 2005-09-25
By Andrew W (Hampshire, United Kingdom)
I have been using the TCON-17 for a couple of months with my Fuji S5500, with good results. It is amazing to have that much zoom. With practice you can use it without a tripod, although at full x17 zoom (10x for camera, 1.7x for TCON - x17 total zoom!) it is difficult to avoid shake if the camera is just in your bare hands. As suggested on the S5000 user website, I permanently keep a filter screwed onto the S5500's adapter ring. That means that when I keep on (un)screwing the TCON-17 onto the camera I'm not damaging the adapter ring's screw thread, which is plastic (my filter's thread is metal, as is the TCON's thread). It works well and is a secure fit.
To sum up - I love it!

"check your bits and bytes" 2010-05-18
By Kahanamoku (UK)
My Panasonic SD700 only records in 28Mbps in 1080 50p mode, NB "bits" per sec, not Bytes per sec, I know of no camera that can record at 20+ M Bytes per sec. Check the bit rate, I am using lower classes now (6), having bought one of these too quickly on the advice of a Panasonic shop shortly before going on holiday. A class 4 should do it. I don't think it is necessary.

That said it performs well.

 "Check compatibility" 2009-12-11
By D. Taylor (London, England)
I purchased this for my Canon Legria HFS10 to supplement the built in memory. Panasonic claim speeds of up to 22MB/s but don't state anywhere if that is a Read or Write speed. Considering some of the older Class 6 cards (this is a Class 10) already achieve Read speeds in excess of 22MB/s I assumed it must be the Write speed and got one, but it wasn't capable of even 17MB/s from my Camcorder. In fact I had to reduce the quality to 12MB/s before the card would work.

I have given this two stars as it didn't fail to work completely and was perfectly capable of saving photos taken on the Camcorder.

Thankfully Amazon refunded me but make sure it is compatible before you splash out, it's hardly a cheap card after all.

I have just bought Panasonic full Hd TX-L32U10B and and a panasonic lumix DMC-TZ7 camera with panasonic 16gb x10 speed card. The card will not read in the sdhc slot in the tv with video or stills ( it does work through the hdmi socket)A small Kingston 250mb card I have works perfectly in the slot. Is the problem likely to be a faulty card, the camera, or the tv?

I bought this thinking I would have no compatibility problems - should possibly have bought a cheaper card.

Roberts introduce the next generation solarDAB radio. This stylish and compact DAB/FM portable radio has a solar panel integrated into the top of the unit which absorbs direct sunlight in order to power the radio. There is a level indicator on the display screen that shows the power level generated by the solar panel. Under good conditions, there is sufficient power generated to charge the batteries and power the radio. The built in rechargeable battery pack is charged whenever the solar panel receives direct sunlight. Once fully charged, the low power consumption of solarDAB allows the batteries to power the radio for up to 27 hours without the need to recharge them. The radio can then be used away from sunlight or mains electricity until recharging becomes necessary.

"Get hubby to crack on with that DIY list!!" 2010-06-21
By Victoria Owen (Cardiff, South Wales)
I bought this DAB solar radio for my husband's birthday primarily to take on family camping holidays but it's proved much more useful than that!!

Since being fully charged it's given my husband many hours of listening pleasure whilst being up his ladder painting the hallway, stairs and landing and listening to the World cup on Talk Sport or 5 Live. We get an excellent reception in our area (which we don't on the FM channels), so I'm just hoping the same can be said while we're away camping with the nippers!

He's now very enthusiastic about doing his DIY jobs, so altogether I think it was an environmental break through on so many levels. No expensive and corrosive batteries to repeatedly buy and dispose of plus peace and tranquility while my house is being transformed into the palace I so obviously deserve :-D

Blissfully relaxed of Cardiff xx

 "Just Brilliant" 2010-06-14
By I. D. Gardner (Staffs, UK)
I bought the radio for camping, gardening etc.

The sound quality is good, its small enough to be portable and the Aux-in is an additional bonus.

Battery life is very good but less so if you turn the volume up high. I managed 3 days without it running out when on a boating weekend. I'd recommend that you take spare batteries just in case it does run out.

My only niggle was that the power-on button is very pronounced so that it will switch on when in my bag. However, I've now discovered that there is a space in the battery compartment so that you can take a battery out and store it to prevent accidental switching on.

Overall, a brilliant little radio that now goes everywhere with me. BBC6 Music whilst camping and gardening - Heaven!!

"Glad I read Brother Tim's review and got the new model." 2010-05-09
By Tom Parker (Derbyshire)
Almost bought the 'old' model at the same price until I read reviews, the new version is great and appears to have incorporated all the points raised by reviewers of the original model.

Overall quality is excellent, it is simple to use, sounds great and provides almost complete flexibility as regards power supply. Battery life is exceptional, even on cloudy days or indoors when the solar panel cannot operate to full potential.

This is a replacement for our existing 'portable' DAB radio which lasts an average of six hours using six 'D' batteries.

You may think the price is a bit steep, but I am going to save a small fortune in batteries alone.

 "SolarDAB-tastic!" 2010-05-06
By Brother Tim (BRIGHTON UK)
Being a owner of a a wind up DAB radio I was excited to see roberts release a solar radio as its a lot less tiring on the arm whilst still being good for mother earth! Its good to see they have released the solarDAB 2 with an FM option as that was one thing that put me off buying their original model was the lack of FM.

As you would expect from a roberts the build quality is excellent (you can see why the queen likes them!) and the sound quality is top notch (nice and rich, although no tone control). There is even a small recessed carry handle in the back which a reviewer flagged up as a dissapointing omission from the first solarDAB.

Overall this is a very impressive great value update of the first solarDAB and comes highly recommended.

feel the power!

 "Wipe clean radio!" 2010-03-03
By Dr. J. L. Mitchell (Warwickshire, UK)
Bought this for the kitchen because a) the FM reception in there is really bad and b) it can get really messy when other half is cooking. Works great on both counts; excellent reception and a wipe clean surface! Took me a while to get used to the 'tone' of it - the only adjustment of sound quality available is volume and it seemed a bit harsh at first (compared to the warmer tone of my old transistor radio) but I can live with that.

Wife wanted a DAB radio for the kitchen and this fitted the bill perfectly. The touch system is brilliant and it comes with its own cleaning cloth! You don't have to press hard or anything, just a touch is sufficient to turn it on/off or change channels/volume/menu. Sound quality is fine. Can run on batteries or mains (we have ours plugged in). Nice slim design and very light in weight. Highly recommended.

Bought this radio for my husband so he can hear his favourite digital stations anywhere in the house. He's really pleased with it, the sound quality is great and the tuning simple.

This was an excellent buy! Was really surprised at the build quality. Nice solid metal casing, feels very robust. Comes with a nice leather bag also. This lens attachment comes with a macro part and the fisheye part (macro and fisheye put together). I spent quite a while on deciding which fisheye lens i should go for, and I would highly recommend this lens. For the price you get exactly what you pay for. The image I get with my Nikon D5000 (18-55mm lens) is surprisingly good. There is a tunnel effect (vignette) on a focal length of 18mm but once you get around 30mm its back to a nice rectangular photo with a nice wide angle. Recommended for beginners or intermediate photographers looking to have a bit of fun for a good price.

Really good value for money, my favourite lens, I use it with both my slr and miniDV cameras. One downside is you will need to invest in a flashgun if you are intent on using the flash in images, otherwise the lens leaves an annoying shadow, but this is the same with most wide-angle convertors.

 "great Picture" 2008-10-14

have owned this tv for just over a week now. i agree with previous reviews regarding the sound quality. it is awful. but most of us now have home cinema or dvd players or hd/dvd recoders which do allow you to have stereo sound, which is what i have done. i have connected this tv to a toshiba RD88DTKTB with the supplied lead and the audio jacks in to my stereo. i will at some point by a home cinema system. the picture quality is superb...just the sound..a little short sighted of LG but dont let it put you off buying if you have any of the above gadgets or are looking to buy one at the same time as the tv, then for the money its gr8 value. would have given it a 5 ***** rating if the sound had been better or it had the right sockets

"Outstanding Picture Quality - But Poor Sound." 2008-05-16
By Mr. Morgan G. Sharich (UK)
I have owned this television for a few days now and just thought I would share some information about this product with everyone.

First off, the graphics are absolutely outstanding for the price; the picture quality (when using a component or HDMI connection) was much higher than expected. The graphics are boosted by the LG XD graphics engine built into the television.

I have been using an XBOX360 console with this TV (using the component cable), and the quality far surpasses that of when you connect the console to a pc monitor.

On the more technical side of things, the TV has the following available connections on the rear panel...

2 X Scart Sockets

1 X HDMI connection

1 X TV Antenna Connection

Component Video Connection

1 X RGB Connection (For use with a PC).

When using the component video connection, the TV can display up to 1080i resolution, but when using the HDMI port the TV can display at 1080p (Full HD) resolution.

Unfortunately this TV is let down by the fact that the speakers built into the television are of poor quality, the sound is very `light' and lacks any depth to it. There is also no headphone jack or `variable audio out' ports to connect an external set of speakers. This is a disappointment as many other of the LCD televisions in the LG range include this feature.

Overall you are getting an amazing picture quality for your money, but the poor sound prevents this from being a 5 star product. If sound is your thing, it's probably best to avoid this, unless like me you can find alternative methods of connecting the TV to a Hi-fi or other audio appliance.

Hope this helps!

Bought one of these from Currys and fixed to the wall. Good picture but the sound is the worst I have ever heard. Not a fault with the TV but the speakers contained within. Very tinny. No headphone socket so quite awkward to fix up separate speakers. returned to Currys and changed for Polaroid, which is surprisingly good and has a headphone socket although the sound on the Polaroid is fairly good.

 "A great TV!" 2008-02-03
By C. Whitehouse (Wales baby!!!!)
I've owned this TV for a few months now and i have to say its great! the picture quality is superb and having a higher native resolution, its great to use as a PC monitor. The only problem i found was the sound quality of the built in speakers, they sound more like loud headphones, but this can be easily sorted by connecting a set of speakers to the headphone socket.

If your looking for a high quality HDTV/PC monitor you really cant go wrong with this. there are plenty of connections, i currently have a pc, xbox 360, ps3 and a freeview box connected and theres still another AV socket and S Video to spare.
