 "Just what I needed" 2010-07-15
By Sam
I bought this for my dad actually, he needed a radio that could have program settings for the stations, a clock, CD player ( the bookmark feature is excellent )and the SD card allows us to store audio books and music. The dimmed display is also handy. For his particular application the remote buttons could have been a bit larger but in general very happy with it, cant understand why Roberts are stopping this product?

 "Just the ticket!" 2010-06-08

I bought this radio for my father when he moved into a residential home and he has it in his room. It takes up a very small amount of space but is good quality & looks fine. He loves the remote and the sound is good, given the price. He also enjoys listening to audio CD's on it. I think I might have to buy another for myself!!

 "Nearly there" 2010-06-06
By Mr. V. R. Kuipers (UK)
DAB radios seem relatively expensive, so I expect a polished product for the money. The Roberts CRD40 is ok, and by the sounds of other reviews, it is possibly better than its competitors espcially the Pure equivalent, but it still didn't quite feel like whatever it was that I paid for it. The sound quality is good - not hugely lound (but then you don't by a little thing like this to play music loud) - neither the radio nor CD sound ever distort at max volume. The one big disappointment is the programmable DAB station memory settings. With 50+ DAB stations out there, you don't want to have to scroll through them all everytime that you want to flick from No 1 favourite to No2 favourite. So you can programme 10 stations into memory, which is good. Where it disappoints is that when you turn it off and turn it back on later, it remembers what station you last played, but not the number in the 1-10 memory. So pressing 'up' or 'down' always takes you back to station #1 to start with. That wouldn't be such a problem if you could quickly press the 'up' or 'down' button repeatedly to get to your desired pre-set station. But you can't. The unit's brains can't handle having these buttons pressed quickly; it immediately loses track of its place in the 1-10 settings. Instead, you have to press them slowly, pausing at each press waiting for the DAB to tune to that station before you press again to move up or down in the 1-10 range. With the technology that goes into a DAB, you'd think that they would have sorted out something as basic as being able to quickly flick through the pre-set stations.

 "Poor reception" 2010-01-17
By Meddie (UK)
The radio we received had appalling reception in every room in the house. (We already have a DAB radio which gives perfect reception). We contacted the supplier who said we could return it for a refund. But we had to pay return postage (as per the conditions of sale) but this really is unfair. It was not our fault that the product was faulty and we have had to pay for the manufacturer's poor quality. Most unusual for Roberts.

"Versatile product for such a low price" 2009-01-31

I bought this to serve simply as a CD/radio alarm clock, but have been delighted to find that it functions perfectly as a great all-round sound system too.

The sound is amazing for such a small unit, as is the enormous range of playback options: iPod, SD card, audio CD, and (best of all) MP3 playback from CDs - this means I can put a playlist of over 100 music tracks on CD, instead of the 10 to 12 that fit on a regular audio CD.

All this means that I've unexpectedly been able to chuck my bulky old sound system out of the bedroom - great given the limited space in there (which of course is why I went for the neat little Sound 40 in the first place!)
