I was pleased at first; good sensitivity, nice sound, impressive bass. But! After listening for a few days, some types of music made it distort/vibrate horrendously, sounding like the very cheapest radio. The Rodrigo guitar concerto sounded like it was being played on a kazoo, and it wasn't because of a weak signal. I'd impulsively bought it at Argos, though it's cheaper on Amazon, and they happily took it back as defective and I paid the extra to buy a Pure One Elite after reading the review here. It's much better. No distortion. Much nicer controls - rotary knob to quickly go through channels in alphabetical order, rather than stabbing away at the "up" button on the Roberts, treble and bass controls plus rewind. But all I really cared about was sound - I used to test car radios professionally. Take home message: ignore Roberts' legacy as an elite product (by the way, they're owned by the Irish Glenn/Dimplex now) read the reviews --- it seems some of them are good but not all.

i received this radio this week and i'm in the process of returning it for the following reasons: the sound-could do with a separate bass and treble control as the sound is too bassy and you strain to hear speech. The reception- when listening to my local bbc station (on fm not dab) there was a lot of crackling, the ariel cannot be angled so you have to position the unit in the 'perfect position' in order to receive a clear broad cast-not always possible in a small room,The presets-switching from one of your favourite stations to another quickly, whether in dab or fm,is not possible(perhaps i've not followed the instructions properly)...apart from these gripes it's a good-looking unit!

Good points:
1) Very easy to use the controls
2) Excellent reception
3) Well-built
4) Aerial built-in so less risk of it being damaged
5) Dimmer swith for the display was very useful
6) Good quality display allowing time and date to be displayed simultaneously
Bad points:
1) Sound was underpowered and muffled (not enough treble and no way of controlling this)
2) Needs separate preset buttons (5 would have been enough)
3) Separate power adapter (inconvenient - could have been built in given the size of the radio)
Returned the radio to Hughes Direct. Very good service from the company. No fuss refund (less postage).

This is very stylish and easy to use, but I was looking for something with better speakers and a little more oomph to it. Even at just "half volume" (i.e. 5 out of 10) on a talk radio station (Radio 5 live) at times there is tangible distortion, cos the speakers aren't really powerful enough. Maybe I was expecting too much.
