This is a really good lens. It's fast aperture allowed me to take sharp pictures even with really low light. On an crop body (400D) it is the ideal walkaround lens if one want light and sharp (really close to a 50 mm on a full body). I found it good for portrait too, I've never been to keen on the 50 mm, too close for my liking. The blur background is also better with a nice shallow depth of field.

I picked up this lens after I was finding a 50mm prime too close for party portraits on my crop frame DSLR. I'm very pleased with it, it's perfect for that application and many others besides. I use if for product photography and it is tack-sharp. It's also a great walkabount lens when weight is an issue. At f2 it has a pleasingly shallow depth of field which I was not expecting from a wideangle. There is some distortion at the edges but as long as portraits are kept towards the centre it's not an issue.

I could go on about this lens until I was blue in the face. It's simply a wonderful piece of kit and really should be the first addition to your kit after buying something like the 400D. 35mm x 1.6 is roughly the same as a 50mm on a full frame camera, so it makes for an ideal prime lens.



It's a little slow to focus and rather noisy in doing so; purple fringing is also an issue on occasion. Other than these minor issues it's near perfect at such a price. I tended to find with the stock lens that the flash was constantly in use and photos looked like (very good) holiday snaps as a result. The aperture on this means that this is almost never an issue. My only regret is discovering this 9 months after I bought my 400D.

This lens is fabulous, it makes a wonderful standard on Canon x1.6 sensor cameras, light and compact. The sharpness even at f2 is superb, on a x1.6 camera star images are sharp and round right to the edge of the frame, very impressive at any price point. Frankly this lens would be a bargain at twice the price. If you're interested in a 35mm lens for your Canon I really wouldn't think twice about getting this one - highly recommended

I hadn't expected sparkling results from this adapter but was pleasantly surprised with its overall performance. I bought this as a stopgap to address the problem of DX sensor size introducing a 1.5x factor to the focal length of lenses. This adapter effectively puts the lens back towards its original coverage angle. I have tried it out on a 28-100mm zoom lens (62mm filter size so stepped up to the 67mm of the adapter - that, incidentally is how I suppose the seller can claim it fits all the lenses in the ad!)) and was also surprised to see it works quite well on a 28-105mm lens (using a step-down ring 72-67mm - usually not a good idea) with little vignetting. From other comments it looks as though use in combination with lenses of less than 28mm or so there is likely to be some fall-off towards the edges. Couldn't verify that properly myself - my 20mm lens diameter is too wide at 82mm to sensibly try it out. For the price - can't complain at all!

this wide angle adaptor works with my 18-105mm Nikon lens. However vignetting at all corners is visible at 18mm, but it's acceptable to me as for that price and there's no reason to complain. You can modify it slightly in photo editor.

 "What do you expect for the money ?" 2010-04-17

Since I already own a Canon 55-250 mm lens , (whch is really excellent ) I would like to have a longer focal length , as I enjoy photographing birds and other wildlife . but find the cost of the very long lenses more than I wish to spend . I was therefore intrigued to see this item , which I ordered from Amazon , and as usual it was delivered in double-quick time , and carefully packed . First impressions were that it was a well built and finished item - or rather pair of items .

A trial has found :-

Tele converter :- On the 55 -250 lens it is utterly useless ,poor definition , flare , colour fringing , even on the camera screen the results were totally unacceptable . On the kit lens 18 - 55 mm , it was much better , the definition was down , there was some colour fringing but it might be useful for someone who had just the kit lens and was unable for some reason to crop the picture .

Wide converter is a totally different affair , trying it on the 18 - 55 lens I found that at 18mm there is some vignetting (that is darkening of the corners ) there is some colour fringing , but nothing like as much as on the tele converter , and a drop in definition , but the results would be certainly be usable on smallish prints or on a projected image - at a slightly longer zoom setting , about 22 mm , matters improved slightly , the vignetting disappeared, and the definition and fringing were a little better .

I would imagine therefore ,that the tele section is very sensitive to the lens it is used with , not surprisingly in view of the complexity of modern zooms , and it may well be that it would work better with some other lenses .

I would sum my advice up by saying : If you want a teleconverter - forget it ... if you want a really wide angle lens and dont want to spend the amount asked for a conventional super-wide ,then buy it for the wide converter , which also incorporates a simple close-up lens , but be aware that you will not get the full quality your camera is capable of .

At widest angle I lose the corners (dark circle eating into the shot).

The thread is shallow and engages with problems, I am afraid will damage my lens filter thread.

Chromatic aberration is visible.

I think I am better off stitching shots together.

The only use I can find is for wide close ups.
