I bought this to accompany my Klipsch Room Groove - Wireless iPod Speaker System and thought it would be a cheap solution to have DAB radio play though the docking station and my iPod classic.
I soon realised that it does not integrate with the iPod, rather use it as a giant battery pack! A small MP3 player with radio would be a much better solution!
It comes with a plug-in antenna which is used while the radio is docked in the docking station. I found that the only way to get a decent signal is to precariously balance the iPod on top and hang the wire antenna from cupboards. This is a pain, unsightly and makes it difficult to change radio station on the device.
All-in-all it's left me feeling that technology has gone backwards and analogue radios do a better job. I wish I had bought a stand-a-lone DAB radio and not wasted my money on this device.
By D. J. Slaughter (London, UK)
I've had my DAB attachment for a year now. It is small but it works well on my iPod apart from in tunnels on the train, which is hardly surprising. If you already carry an iPod and don't want yet another gadget in your handbag along with the phone, purse and other stuff, this is great! On the downside, it does drain the battery on the iPod so you have to charge it up regularly and even at this reduced price, it is still a trifle expensive. On the whole, I'm very pleased with it.
My husband doesn't have an iPod but he has a Pure Personal DAB Radio and he says that is excellent. He also has several large pockets on his jacket suitable for all the paraphernalia!
By Candy girl (Wokingham, UK)
Great idea in theory. First one I received had connections problems ie: it kept wobbling in the speaker dock & switching itself off. Amazon suggested I contact Intempo technical help but they never even answered the phone! Second unit worked a little better but still switched itself off after about half an hours use & got very warm!
I would suggest that anyone looking for a DAB radio avoid this & get a regular full size radio.

Bought a pair of these yesterday in a sale which was a good thing. If I had paid the full price I would be rather miffed right now.
I like the way Apple earphone jackleads come straight up out of the Ipod, the radio seems to me to be very good, and easy to use. Its just the blooming ear pieces are really hard, don't fit well in the ear and as a result are uncomfortable to wear after a while.
So good radio, nice control for ipod but outmoded ear piece design which is naff from Apple who should be very design savy.

I purchased an after market product and although initially if was great it didn't last 6 months. You know what your getting with an apple product.
By Peter Best (london, uk)
The concept is good, the interface is excellent. The reception is atrocious, epsecially when on the move which is surely the point of it? If not on the move, would one not use a normal radio...?
I now use the remote more as an ipod remote rather than a radio...
I do NOT recommmend this.
By I. Spencer
I have bought atleast 3 of this product two from here and one from argos. This product is good as it gives to radio signal and an alternative if your headphone socket should stop working for one ear. The radio signal is quite naff and when you turn the ipod on the device is often not recognized as the radio bit disappears from the menu. The remote is a genius idea with a clip however in time this stops working and the volume is the only bit that works. The clips on the back that seal the wiring come of very easy and snap. For the first few months this product is good but from then on its downhill. I have an ipod 30GB video.

AVOID THIS ITEM AT ALL COSTS.
HAVING READ THE RECENT REVIEWS ON THE RATHER POOR RADIO RECEPTION I THOUGHT BECAUSE OUR TRANSMITTER IS LOCATED NEARBY THE RECEPTION QUALITY SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE!!! ( HOW WRONG ) VERY POOR QUALITY INDEED. DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU HAVE AN ADDICTION TO TINNITUS, BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE MOST OF THE TIME IN YOUR EARS, JUST A VERY LOUD HISSSSSSSSSSS.
MY ADVICE DO NOT BUY.

I actually got this in to put in our kitchen rather than use as an alarm clock.
It's a nice little compact neat unit so it looks really tidy on the shelf, my i-pod is a fairly old version so whilst not looking as slick as the one in the picture I was pleased that it fits and works by simply dropping it onto the saddle.
I'm really pleased with the sound given the size and price of the product. It has a few different EQ settings which gave plenty of different sounds depending on what it is you're listening to. The faux surround is also pretty good - it fills our large kitchen nicely.
It was also a doddle to set up - literally plug it in and away you go.
For the price - I'd really recommend it. Either as a handy little soundstation for any room where you want to be able to listen to some tunes or for its primary purpose as an alarm clock - the display is really clear and looks nice and modern.
By Sandford (Kent, UK)
A good looking unit whose diminutive size could be forgiven for not providing decent sound output. But this is not the case, the sound quality is excellent with plenty of volume if required. There are no individual tone controls simply a series of pre-set EQ settings but these give a broad range of tonal options.
Set-up is a doddle, my only problem was changing the continental 2 pin plug for the provided UK 13amp type - if I had read the enclosed leaflet I could have saved myself several minutes.
Adaptors are provided for 1st and 2nd generation iPhones but none for iPods - so ensure that those that came packed with your iPod are to hand. There is also a `Line-in' socket for use if you have an iPod or other MP3 player without the base connection.
The physical size of the unit and the excellent large display screen makes it ideal for the bedside - although the very small remote could easily be mislaid.
Finally all the controls on the top of the unit are all easily accessible due to their decent size - it would be very difficult to `miss' the snooze button.
To summarise, excellent sound from a nicely engineered unit.
By Mrs. Bryony A. Shaw (Ely, Cambs)
This is a very swanky looking docking station. First thought was that it was a lot bigger than I was expecting but it has a great big clear display which I need (for when I am bleary eyed and woken by children in the night). Has a huge snooze button too which is always good.
The sound is brilliant - really clear and it comes with a little remote control tho I don't use this much as I mainly listen when I am in bed and have it next to me. My husband is pleased that you can use the buttons on the dock to skip tracks as he doesn't like having to fiddle with the Ipod when it's docked. We use it with an Ipod Touch 8gb 3rd gen and a 2nd gen Nano. Works fine with both of these. Radio works fine too and easy to navigate.
Only issue is the size really, it's not a problem for me as I have a chest of drawers by my bed but if I had a little bedside table there wouldn't be room for much else. I guess the bigger speakers give you bigger sound though so it's swings and roundabouts.
All in all a great dock tho - does everything I need it it to and does it well.

This does the job although the sound is quite tinny. However, the light it gives off at night is incredibly bright even on the dimmest setting and therefore we have to face it downwards which kind of defeats the object as we can't then see the time. Easy to use and looks good though.

Started malfunctioning about a year after I bought it and now it is completely broken. All I hear when I try and listen to the radio or ipod is a low humming sound. Seems like lots of people have had similar problems.
By Mr. Philip Sketchley (uk)
very impressive sound quality and appears to be high quality.
smooth surface difficult to grip when lifting and have to be careful not to touch rear woofer speaker cone surface.
I was concerned by some earlier purchaser reviews, but so far it has proved to be very good.
DAB Aerial points back at an angle and therefore a bit awkward to push against a rear wall, bit some space at rear is needed to make the most of the bass souind projection.
By S. Hayden (London, UK)
I received the Intempo RDI as a gift in late 2008. Loved it.. though never had much success with the DAB part (did not work well on mine). One year later - it started making a high pitch. I called up Intempo and they happily replaced mine with a new one.. I thought - Brilliant! They didn't request a receipt or anything - just sent a new one, no questions asked (as if they knew that this fault happens with it). 8 months later and the new one is doing the exact same thing. Now I call up Intempo and they refuse to replace it because I don't have a receipt. In their own computers, they show and confirm that they did send me a new one in Oct 2009... (shouldn't that be proof enough of when I received the RDI?) but say they can't send me a new one without the receipt.
When I told the rep that I didn't think that this was a good way to build consumer loyalty, she told me I was being rude... lovely.
Needless to say - I won't be buying Intempo products anymore - two faulty ones and a rude customer service rep are enough to pull the plug.
By book worm (uk)
Excellent value for money, worth paying the extra for as the sound is excellent.
The docking station not only looks good but is easy to use and the reception for the DAB is fantastic.
By J. Knowles (Brighton, UK)
There appears to be a fundamental fault with a component in this product, possibly to do with the dock.
I, like many many others, have had problems with the basic functions of the unit. After around 18 months, the i-pod began to cut out randomly during playback, for up to 30 seconds at a time. Then the radio stopped working if I placed the ipod in the dock to charge. Finally, it began to take up to half an hour for the radio to kick in after being switched on, during which an annoying high pitched whine was emitted. Sometimes I can get around this by switching the unit on and off rapidly whilst putting the ipod in and out of the dock, but this doesn't always work. Intempo should be offering a free repair/component replacement for this obviously very widespread problem.

Great little music system for the bedroom it arrived in good time well packaged and looks and sounds really good.
It is as other reviews have stated as very bright on the display even on dim setting but it more than makes up for it with weekday settings and weekend settings for the alarms and the music quality and pop out ipod charger are fantastic.
By Mr. Gooseberry (Ireland)
After replacing my trustworthy Sony radio clock (after 15 years) with this model, I must say I have been quite disappointed with its performance.
+ it does what it's supposed to do
- its display is far far too bright, even at the lowest setting. To the point where I have to turn it at an angle... which means that I can no longer see the time. A very silly design fault!
- the FM radio tuner is very average... and unfortunately my favourite station is barely audible (whereas the 15 year old model was performing far better from the same spot)
- overall its design is a little flimsy, especially the iPod tray
- controls are not well thought out: when changing the time for the alarm, you need to go through the whole cycles of hours, minutes, days of the week, station, etc. etc. A functional design should allow me to change just the time without having to go through the whole cycle.
So overall a disappointment, and I must say that I am seriously considering replacing this unit with the 15-old model...
By A. Masood
Having read the reviews which talked about the brightness of the clock, I was initally worried though I still ordered it. I am very very glad I did!!! The clock is not too bright, as has been made out. It has not disturbed my sleep. In fact, the first night, I kept checking to see if the light was too bright - it was not!And it has three levels of brightness, the lowest of which is very dim (if that's what you prefer).
I have a medium size bedroom where the clock/radio sits. The clock arrived really quickly. The sound is perfect. The remote is very handy. The clock is really light and quite small, so I can move its position if I need to. It has dual alarms - so I have set one up for the weekend, and one for work days. The setting up instructions are very easy (and this is coming from someone who is not very techo-friendly!) Within 20 minutes, I was listening to my ipod nano on the clock/radio. Also, you do not need a separate adaptor or anything to fix your ipod to the pull-out tray - everything is provided.
Only thing, and it's a minor point: if I choose to fall asleep to the ipod, pre-set to switch off after a given time (say 10 minutes), then I will wake up to the next song on the list i.e. the clock/radio won't choose the song for you from a "shuffle" or anything....unless you choose the "shuffle songs" option on the ipod and go into the list.
But aside from this very minor point, it's a great buy. I woke up this morning to my ipod (which is an amazing feeling) and I have really been enjoying my work day (am sure this is all psychological though!)
By Mrs A (Hampshire, UK)
I love this little clock radio - it does exactly what is needed, sounds good, looks great and they way the i-pod dock tucks away is a real plus. It has some great little extra features that your normal clock radio doesn't have - ie you can set a different alarm time for different days of the week. The time was already set and accurate when I opened the product and the daylight saving is easy to change. The fact it has a remote control is also a plus as you can be a reasonable distance away and still alter the volume, track, mode etc. My young daughter loves it too as it means we can listen to her music on my i-pod whilst she is getting ready for bed! The display is quite bright, but not as bright as some and you can easily sleep undisturbed by it. Great value, great product - well done Sony!
By dilly
This is an excellent clock radio. The radio reception is much better than others I've had, and the sound is very good from both the radio and ipod. I don't find the display that bright, it is dimmer than my previous clock. It is a little odd only having a 12 hour display clock as opposed to the normal 24hr one, but it's insignificant really. I can't fault it and would highly recommend it.
