August DTA205 Portable Mini Digital TV Aerial with Magnetic Base and 5-Segment Extendable Rod for Freeview TV and DAB Radio

A portable digital TV antenna designed for August DTV350C, DA701C, DA900C? DTV100C? DA110BD and applicable to all portable AV devices with TV and DAB radio with a coaxial RF socket and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, not applicable for analogue reception.

There may be difficulty to receive Freeview TV signal by a portable or indoor antenna in some areas where the signal is not sufficiently strong. This is due to that the Freeview service in the UK is not fully operating yet. The reception will be improving along with the progress of Digital Switchover Program. A signal amplifier or booster may improve reception capability in regions where the signal is marginally strong. (please note that reception capability may also be affected by various factors such as proximity to Freeview TV/digital radio transmitters, tall building structures, thick walls, ceilings and etc.). A rooftop TV aerial may be required to watch Freeview channels in regions where the signal is insufficient for a portable antenna.

"A frustratingly narrow field of view." 2009-05-09
By C. MUMMERY (Örnsköldsvik, Sweden)
This works as promised but the problem is the field of view is so narrow it feels like looking through a pinhole and it's really hard to get eyelashes out of the way of what you are viewing! It's cheap but I might buy the natural history museum microscope next time since it seems to have a much wider view.

 "SUPER LITTLE PORTABLE!" 2010-06-17
By J. Curtis (Essex, UK)
I bought this little DAB portable for the bathroom. I am very impressed with the radio itself, super clear quality and small and compact enough to fit on a small bathroom shelf. However, if you want it to be truly portable and for use in the bathroom, you will have to purchase the separate chargeable battery pack - I realised this before I bought the radio and was happy to do so.

I did have difficulties fitting the battery pack into the radio though, this took several attempts, it's not very well designed but once inserted you don't have to remove to re-charge. It is worth purchasing as it will save a fortune in having to replace batteries and helps the environment. I must say the sound quality for such a small radio is very good, I'm so impressed that I've bought another one for my son!

This is as reviews I read before buying .. excellent quality, the 'plasticky' comments before understandable but really not that bad.. Works perfectly .. sound quality excellent for a small but perfectly formed Radio.. LOVE IT!

Looks good and sounds good. Very easy to use, automatically searches for stations and you can then save them. Better still you can plug your ipod into the AUX port with a cheap lead and choose your own music...yay! Colour is gorgeous too. Would recommend.

"A great little radio, but shame about the power options" 2009-12-26
By Maki (Leeds, England)
I bought this for my fiance for Christmas, based on feedback I'd heard at a number of websites.

It is a great little radio, and though it only has the one speaker, the sound quality is excellent, and loud enough for somewhere like the kitchen, bathroom or bedroom. So the sound isn't stereo - so what? Unless you have speakers spaced wide apart, it hardly makes a difference. The radio has a headphones socket anyhow. It also has a line-in socket which means that you could connect your MP3 player to it and use it as a speaker.

Setting it up and operating it is a piece of cake and would be easy enough for anyone to pick up in a matter of seconds. Within a minute of having it out of the box, it was tuned in to 52 digital radio stations and was playing some nice tunes for us as we prepared Christmas lunch.

The radio is a lovely soft pink colour - feminine, but not over-girly - and compact, and isn't festooned with buttons either, so it has a clean appealling shape. The display is also clear and allows you to see the name of the staion, the current time, and the song playing.

The ONLY criticism I have of it is that it doesn't take ordinary batteries. You either use the mains lead, or a special power-pack that is sold seperately. Pure (the manufactureres) say that their battery pack, which costs half as much as the radio itself did, is an economical, environmentally-friendly thing. Sure, it's better than using loads of ordinary batteries. However, I have loads of high-power rechargeables which outlast even Duracells and which can be charged over 1000 times each. But can I use them in this radio? No.

To me, the need for a specially designed battery to ensure full portability smacks of money-making by the manufacturer. That is the reason why I've only given this radio 4 stars. Had there been an option to use ordinary batteries, I'd have given it the full 5 stars without hesitation.

So, to summarise, it's a great little radio, but you need to consider this: the radio itself is about £40. But if you want full portability (ie to be able to use it without mains power), you need to factor in the cost of the chargepack. So overall, you'd be paying about £60 for it. And I can't help but think you may be able to do better for that kind of money.

"Pure One Mini DAB/FM Radio" 2010-05-04
By Susie (North West, UK)
This is an absolutely cracking little radio. The sound is really very good for the size, and it's really simple to use.

I bought it for the bathroom and it's in use every day. I only need to charge the 'battery' about once per fortnight.

If I have anything negative to say, then it's the fact that it only runs on a Pure re-chargeable battery (chargepack), which isn't made clear in the advertising blurb, and this adds an extra £20 to the purchase price, so be aware, but don't let it put you off buying one!

 "Misleading information" 2010-05-01
By Don't Fail Me Now (London, England)
This radio does NOT have an alarm or sleep timer, nor does it have a pause/rewind facility. At the time of writing (1 May 2010) the Amazon site still claims that it does. Having bought one on the premise it does, I reported this to Amazon but they haven't taken any action. I agree with other reviewers about the battery pack, you need to be aware that you have to buy it separately, and it will cost you around £20.

The sound is pretty good, but if you add on the price of the battery pack it's pricey for a basic radio. Probably best to shop around before buying.

 "Great Product" 2010-04-28
By Geoff G (UK)
GREAT little unit that delivers good quality sound. The ultra portability that comes with the overpriced battery pack (ouch!) means it can easily be taken into the bathroom, garden etc. The input socket enables me to use it as an external speaker for my Iphone etc., Big plus! I'm delighted with the product. No regrets!

 "Good Little Radio" 2010-04-04

Nice little radio, easy to follow instructions for set up, good volume. Only thing I dont like are the fiddly little buttons on the top, are sometimes hard to press.

"not quite what it claims to be..." 2010-03-22
By Michael Bridger (London)
This is a very nice little radio, with good sound and, once you've got used to it, a simple system for storing and selecting presets etc. However, I agree with other reviewers who have pointed out that the battery that has to be purchased as an extra is rather expensive. Also, more seriously, the radio does not have the facility to pause and rewind live broadcasts, which was claimed in the Amazon page about it. The details might have been corrected by now, but when I complained to Amazon about this I received a standard brush-off and no response to a follow-up email. This facility was one of the main reasons why I bought this item and it is annoying to find that the Amazon details are misleading.

I really like this radio. Excellent sound and easy to operate. Slight downside is that it insists on defaulting to 'Planet Rock' as its no. 1 pre-set favourite !

 "Pure One Mini" 2010-04-13
By Bookman (London, UK)
Works very well, picks up even weak stations that the old dab radio would not. Only downside is that anything plugged into the 'line in' socket cannot use the Pure's volume control. As a consequence you are stuck with the volume control on the the MP3 player or whatever. As that is designed for headphones, it's not really loud enough. Black mark there! Otherwise though, a value for money product.

 "Poor LCD display" 2010-04-08
By Honey badger (United Kingdom)
One of the killer apps for DAB radio for me, is the scrolling display, showing you at a glance what you're listening to.

The display on this model scrolls painfully slowly; Nobody reads that slowly.

If you want to jump ahead using the wheel, that is also painfully slow. Imagine a mouse wheel set to just a single line per click. You'd wear your finger out scrolling.

Whilst scrolling the radio reset itself a few times, revealing a possible firmware problem.

There is probably more but I've only just taken it out of the box, and been left with an immediate bad impression.

"Pure One Mini, adaquate, but not great" 2010-04-05
By Graham Manley
It works well as a DAB radio and, being compact, is quite easy to pack to take away on trips. I only plan to use it as a mains radio, so the lack of the stupidly expensive battery pack didnt bother me too much. However it would be much better if it accepted normal batteries for the occassional use where mains power is not available. It is not up to the usual Pure quality standard. For instance the dial (for volume control and station change) doesnt always work first time. It seems to work best when used slowly. It is also difficult to select a station, requiring two hands as the dial has to be pushed from the side. I have a larger Pure radio, too big for travel use, which is much better quality. You get what you pay for from Pure.
