What an amazing DAB Radion. Bought as a factory 2nd but there is no way to tell it from new. At a 1/4 of new price a brilliant deal. Great stereo sound and very easy to set up with no problems at all.

Have owned an identical radio for a couple of years and it is excellent. Bought this one for a different room and it's equally good. This one is apparently refurbished but as good as new and very well priced. Would certainly buy another. Excellent sound quality and easy to use. I believe it's been replaced by newer model but still perfectly OK. Recommended.

This is an awsome piece of tech. Excellent DAB reception with brilliant sound quality even when you crank it up. I also use the 3.5mm jack on the back to connect my Ipod and it works like a hifi. We even had a party and used it as the sound system. Strongly recommend.

Great product at a good price. Delivered quickly and efficiently. No issues at all.
It was a present for my partner and she loves it....

I bought this item to replace my bedside Pure Evoke 1S which I had damaged by my own carelessness. When it arrived there was something wrong with the software. It was a factory refurbishment but, nevertheless, it should have been properly checked before dispatch. Pure arranged collection and replacement within a reasonable time but I could have done without the hassle.
My main problem with the 1S was that it would not accommodate an external source such as an iPod The 2XT serves this purpose well.
I think that most people would find this model too big as a bedside radio but I am content with it. The sound is good and will fill the room if necessary. I have seen no necessity to try the FM band to any extent, or the alarm at all. [The joys of retirement!]
The worst aspect of the 2XT is the display. When DAB is playing, the small display panel is cluttered with the time [twice], the date, the name of the station, the signal strength, and stereo and DAB indications. In other modes there is less clutter but the time display is still very small. I need reading glasses so I find this difficult from the bedside. The time display would not be of much use across a room either.
Other Pure models have been criticized for too bright a display. The low level on this one seems just right for me and there is a button to increase the brightness for a few seconds if necessary.

This is a classy, well made, good looking and great sounding radio. I particularly like its retro look, which contains up to the minute digital technology.
It is easy to use, and has lots of great features.
I particularly like the snooze handle...no more fumbling for a tiny button, just a light touch is all that's needed.
By Lord Denbigh (Colchester, UK)
I am extremely pleased with this radio for the following reasons:
- excellent reception even without the aerial
- high quality display with the very useful snooze handle - an added bonus particularly useful for viewing the time in the dark
- very ease to use and set up
- energy saving and screen saving are unobtrusive and efficient
- well thought-out design with only one small quibble - the volume and tuning buttons should be further apart
I found the Pure models, as presented on their website, hard to distinguish from each other - this model is the same base unit as the Evoke but has the addition of Natural Sounds in place of an integrated battery compartment. I had no need for the latter as the unit is used as a bedside radio.
By R. Cardwell (Bedford, UK)
I wanted a DAB clock radio for the bedside and this fits the bill perfectly.
I get good reception for both DAB and FM and sound quality for a mono radio is very good. The natural sounds are great for getting off to sleep and having 4 independent alarms is brilliant.
The OLED display is fantastic. Its dims automatically in dark, is clear enough to read the time but doesn't radiate light to keep me awake.
I haven't checked the accuracy of the timekeeping which other reviewers have mentioned but if if I need to be up by a certain time then I can set it a few minutes earlier, no big deal to me.
All in all I am very satisfied with this product, it looks great too!
By X. Moseley (brighton)
great reception, design, very user friendly, and very handy extra features such as alarm and snooze.

The Tempus is a great DAB radio let down by the way the clock functions. After setting everything up, I left the machine in standby. I returned after 7 hours and found the time was already 2 minutes out. Pure state: "The radio looks at the time every hour from the moment you first turn the radio on and this is how it keeps its clock up to date" but obviously doesn't mean during standby. I then assumed all that was needed was to turn the radio on for this to be immediately corrected - which would have been fine - not so, as the time remained exactly the same (I only listen to BBC DAB stations so the time signal is accurate and plentiful). In order for the clock to update, the radio has to now remain on for at least an hour. But what if I only use the radio for 30 minutes before putting it back to standby or switching to a non-radio mode? It never gets a chance to update and the time just gets more and more out. Is this really the best idea for updating the clock? With the onboard clock so inaccurate, why not either have the clock update in standby too, or, even better, have it look for an update the moment it comes out of standby. Seems obvious to me.
I've recently had the opportunity to try several DAB radios at home, including Pure's new Chronos iDock II. Aside form other issues I wont go into here, the clocks were never wrong, not once, and the units were in standby for most of the time. When the BBC broadcast the hourly time signal pips, they were only a few seconds behind. Therefore the Tempus issue has nothing to do with multiplexes or time signals as Pure would have you believe.
I doubt Pure has plans to update the firmware to deal with this, as this is not a new model and they would've surely done so by now. So, in my opinion, having a brand new bedside CLOCK radio whose clock can be several minutes out within hours of being in standby, doesn't really work properly, isn't truly fit for the purpose for which it was intended, as even an ordinary analogue clock keeps an accurate time after such a short period, and therefore must be considered faulty - which is a real shame, as in all other respects it's a really fine piece of equipment.

With the end of FM in sight, and our old radio-cassette recorder broken, we needed to come into the 21st Century with a DAB Radio that has a record function. We looked at Roberts and Pure, as they seem to be the only ones (in England) that have a model which records. Roberts was too expensive so we bought the Pure Evoke-3 Portable Stereo DAB Radio and its associated re-chargeable battery pack. We also had to buy a SanDisk to record onto. The Pure Evoke-3 is a beautiful looking piece of equipment which has a very nice tone. The functions do take a bit of "techie-savvy", (or it might be that I'm too old to understand all the bells and whistels!), but once you've mastered the record to SanDisk and delete-recording functions this is a crackin' piece of equipment! I would certainly recommend Pure to anyone who wants a DAB radio, (we now have their smaller Pure-One, portable radio, too), and once you've learned the "techie-bit", the ease of recording/deleting to a memory card is SO much easier than cassette tapes!
Amazon's price couldn't be beaten when we purchased this, too, and it was delivered in next to no time.

I'm delighted with this radio and the service from Amazon. The sound is fairly good and the many features make it a very good buy as a portable DAB radio. I find the review facility most useful and the information panel is clear
Having read other reviews on Amazon before ordering I was aware that sometimes buyers are sent a faulty product, mainly a radio that switches itself on from standby. Mine did this and , when I was certain it wasn't forgetfulness on my part, I sent it back and received a new one with costs refunded.
The other bad point I that if a SD Memory card is in place the radio frequently records data to it and during recording you cannot change programmes or switch off. So I keep a card out.

The pleasure of this radio is sadly short lived, as a growing number of us are discovering. My first one gave up the ghost while still under warranty. Ok - things can go wrong. I was without a radio for a month but they replaced it with a new one. One year later (admittedly, a pleasurable year of brilliant radio sound), and the new radio has developed a (different) fault: the tuning knob has stopped working. Off it goes to Pure. Another month for them to fix it or replace it. At around £200, I'd expect several decades of service, not a mere 12 months. I'd advise thinking very carefully before buying one. Or at least check out the feedback from a large number of unhappy Pure customers. For a brief, expensive fling, fine. For a long term and meaningful relationship, I'd buy another brand.
By Caroline Shepherd (Bruton, Somerset, UK)
Having experienced a digital radio when they first came out I found the Pure Evoke 3 to be beyond all expectations. We are in a very poor reception area due to living in a bowl in the landscape and the new radio picks up nearly all stations with great clarity and reliability in all but a few minor spots around the house. It is also a reliable alarm clock!
By EM CONCEICAO-SILVA (England)
From "Woman's Hour" to Jeremy Vine and very disapointedly George Galloway left Talk Sport I live my daily companion.
Love the clarity of tone and the easy selection of programmes. With the recording facility I will never miss Desert Island Disks again.
EdS.

My first experience of digital radio has been made an extremely pleasureable one by this gorgeous little unit. As you can see it looks superb; with a choice of wood-types I am more than happy with the cherry-red veneer this sports. More importantly the sound is first-class; crisp, clear and with a good range of volume. I also love the display that informs me what song is playing - must be easily pleased!
The radio can be powered by AC or a separately available rechargeable battery and can receive Digital or FM broadcasts. It also has a line in socket (for plugging an ipod/MP3 player into) and a line out socket for plugging into a hi-fi as well as a headphone socket. A neat and robust carrying handle makes it emminently portable, whilst the size means it's pleasingly 'there' but not too 'in one's face'. All in all this is a fantastic bit of kit that I unreservedly recommend - not a bad price too if you shop around.

This is the second Pure Evoke-1S that I have bought; the first was for myself some time ago, and the second was as a birthday present for someone else. The recipient is as delighted with the performance of this radio as I continue to be. It is simple to use and for its small size it produces a remarkably clear sound. I wouldn't hezitate to buy another if the occasion arose.
By D. J. Grover (England)
I bought it for my wife who wanted a digital radio - partly to listen to the religious programmes. She is pleased with it. I thought the battery a bit expensive but if it lasts a long time then maybe it's worth it.
By Steve (Rutland, UK)
Bought this to replace an aged Roberts portable that just could not hold the signal. I am very impressed with the sound quality, and it holds the signal extremely well, with no background hiss or distortion that you get on the 'old fashioned' kit. I haven't purchased the addional speaker as it is only for the kitchen; and I run it from the mains, so won't bother with the battery pack.
Great selection of stations to choose from that will satisfy all tastes. It was very easy to set up; did it all itself really. The only thing that I am 'miffed' about is i paid £89.01 for it about 3 weeks ago, and now it has dropped in price - typical! It is a good looking item, whilst the display is clear. I find the rolling display handy when a tune is playing and I just can't remember the title or singer(s)/group etc. Well worth the money, as this radio would not look out of place in any room.
By maclenor (London UK)
This is the second DAB radio I have purchased. The sound quality is excellent and the features useful. The display is a good size for older people like me and has different options. Although some may think this is expensive you get what you pay for.
I would definitely recommend this.
I also bought the rechargeable battery pack as my previous radio only lasted two weeks and I had to replace 6 x A batteries. Very expensive so this battery pack will definitely pay for itself By the way the other DAB I purchased was a Sony at half this price

Really love this and for me, was an excellent choice. It's very user friendly, quite easy to set up, though it took a bit of time but that could have been down to my impatience. Once set up with your favourite channels, your just one button away from changing stations - brilliant, beats my old radio where I still had to turn a dial and wait for someone to mention the name of the channel I had tuned into.
I like the feature on the display that tells you what track is being played and who it is. It probably gives me much more info but I've not checked that out yet.
I am looking forward to taking it away in our motor home and seeing what it may or may not pick up in France.
I like the colour too, it's quite neutral and fits in well with the decor in my kitchen - a great buy.

Pure give a five year warranty on their radios, and I discovered the reason for this when my Evoke 1 DAB expired (its chip failed) in its sixth year. It had been used regulary, but not moved around or stressed in other ways. Anyone considering these radios should be aware that they may have a very limited life compared to older (and much cheaper) analogue radios. Pure offer a repair service, but the cost of this + postage is considerably more than the cost of buying a new Sony DAB. Only time will tell if my new Sony has a longer life.
By MsMeg (Oxford, UK)
I received this DAB radio as a Christmas present and I am really pleased with it. It's well made, fairly compact with a sleek and pleasing 'retro' look. The instruction manual has clear instructions and made for an easy, first-set up. It is easy to use and has an energy-saving, standby function, which displays the time when not in use (very useful). The radio automatically tunes into the available DAB stations and up to 30 radio stations can be stored in its pre-set buttons. The sound of the radio is really clear and has a good balance of treble & bass tones.
I am really delighted with this radio as I now have more radio stations to choose from, all of which are perfectly tuned - no more horrible crackling, bad reception & white noise!!!
By M. Fielding (England)
I've had a couple of Pure DAB products now. One lasted 3 years and one lasted 5. I don't know if I'm expecting too much. Both failed in similar ways. They have power, stuff happens, but no display and no radio. I shall not buy PURE again but maybe I've got high expectations.
By S. M. Squires (London, UK)
I bought this as a Christmas present for my parents, and I already have one myself.
Easy to use, nice to look at, and good sound quality. Recommended
