"Pure Chronos Dab alarm clock radio" 2009-12-30
By Mr. Philip Osborne (Bristol, UK)
This is a good stylish looking alarm clock with good, clear sound that is not tinny. The time is listed above the date (8 figure day/month/year)which makes it a bit small to read. Other reviews state that the display light is either very bright or too dime, this is the case but has not caused us a probably, it depends how close your clock is to you and how dark you like the room ???. All in all this is a good value Dab alarm clock.

 "Poor DAB reception" 2009-10-31

Pleased with the look of the radio alarm. Setting the alarm is quite involved for non techies and it gets virtually no useful DAB reception. My last DAB radio in same location was much better.

There's a lot about this product that shines: there are four alarm settings with a handy weekday / weekend feature; great sound and easy to operate. A number of reviewers have mentioned the bright display and it's for this reason that I stop off to write this review en route to buying a replacement alarm clock on Amazon. Too bright, it's like sleeping beside an open fridge door (we've all been there). I suspect there are better buys out there. Close but no cigar.

"Good Radio / Not so great Alarm Radio" 2007-10-28
By bob_a_builder (Berkshire,UK)
So near yet so far, makes you wonder if the designers ever used it as a bedside radio themselves

1. Display too bright at night, even on dim.

2. Large Clock display option, numbers too narrow to read properly, should have another option to allow double wide as well as double high

3. Not enough control of volume (esp at low levels) - why does a 'digital' radio have to have 'digital' control of the volume, it should be an analogue control - hold the left button to reduce volume, right button to increase, rather than step up and step down

4. Buttons too noisy - The mechanical feedback is too much late at night - the buttons could be silent and have the feedback as sound - that way user could set as they wished

5. Better separation of day to day controls from setup type controls would make life easier in those waking moments

6. Also would benefit from some single button station presets

Look forward to seeing version 2

Off to find some 'red transparent plastic' to dim thats display as recommended any another review ....

"Sensibly designed and a solid performer." 2007-09-05
By Mr. P. J. R. LEWIS (Llandudno N Wales)
Pure's attractively designed chronos clock radio sits neatly besides anybodies bedside providing superb mono sound.

All the touch sensitive controls are located ontop and right at the front of the radio and the important on off switch is bottom right where logically your fingers tend to gravitate whilst thumbling in the dark.

It shares all the controls of its bigger brothers including auto search and manual tune.

Many of the reviewers have been complaining about the Blackpool Illuminations with the display backlite but ive noticed that with all Pure DAB radios this is a trait that all their radios appear to have, the thing is the Chronos display is so much larger thus giving off more light.I didnot find it that obtrusive, infact there would be room for complaint if the display was too weak.

Anyway you can dim the display and on my model the display appeard too weak so possibly other peoples radios may have been manufactured at an earlier date.

My only criticism of this superb radio is that i would have liked the option of connecting a telescopic ariel. The small wire provides magnificent reception but i can remember years ago a similar radio i owned accidentally fell to the floor pulling the ariel away from its connection.

Im really going off the point because this radio with its superb reception ease of use and quality construction would not look out of place on anybodies table, bedside or otherwise.
