Originally designed for dentists and medical use, the HD10X is now available to the public. Unlike current single element lenses, the HD10X has 4 elements of high definition optical glass that provides unbelievable detail. Cameras fitted with normal lenses do not permit us to move closer than a certain minimum distance from the object being photographed. The Close-Up lens, which is simply mounted in the front of our normal taking lens, permits the taking of close-ups and also makes possible the photography of details which would be quite impossible without using the Close-Up lens. The easy to use solution for getting extra close. These lenses enable you to get much closer than the minimum focus of the standard camera lens - as close as 4 inches from the subject. When trying it out, I thought at first it wasn't compatible with a Nikon D40, as the autofocus didn't work. However, some research combined with trial and error proved that you have to get very close to the subject, and need plenty of light. It is also very sensitive to movement, so shooting flowers on a windy day is not a good idea.
When you get it right, the images are lovely and sharp, and it's a clever shortcut to macro photography.

The Opteka 52mm 10x HD² Professional Macro Lens is a very good well made lens.
I soon put it to use and got excellent sharp results from a close up shot of a ladybird.

This is a great little lens for beginners like me. An inexpensive introductory piece of equipment.(Uses Manual focus only of course).
