PURE ONE Mini DAB/FM Radio - white

Received this product within 24 hours of ordering. My first DAB radio. I am impressed with the spec. and the radio 'self-tuned' within a minute of switching on. Once the controls had been mastered, it was very easy to operate. One criticism though - the sound quality is compromised by a very small speaker - not enough bass for my liking. However, this is an inexpensive model so presumably 'something had to give'. Attaching headphones to the minijack socket on the side produced 1st class results. I have no hesitation in recommending this product.

"Preset Buttons - not really!" 2008-12-10

This radio works fine as a general receiver but I bought one for my elderly mother thinking it would give her a good choice of channels, ie BBC7. It is not simply a matter of programming a button for each channel she likes - the method is not easy for her. It requires three functions to change channel which she is not quick enough to perform. The radio tends to be left on one station, which her old analogue radio got anyway!

Having said that, I can use it fine so will probably get my mother a more user friendly radio and have this myself.

 "Pure good value" 2008-11-10
By Mr. M. Chapman (Northants UK)
I have had this radio in daily use for ten months now, and really, for the price I would say it is superb! I cannot understand those who say the sound quality is below par - I think the sound quality is one of its best attributes - two of my workmates have bought a Pure One after hearing mine - even at high volume its unbelievable considering it has one 3" speaker - (If you use headphones you get full stereo too). It was recently dropped from a table on to a hard floor, and is still perfect - very impressive. It has to be said that it does look a little 'plasticky', but the design is quirky and neat. The display has a very useful clock which you can always rely on as it gets a radio signal for the correct time, and has a 'timed off' function which means its only illuminated when you touch the controls, brilliant for use as a bedside radio in a dark room. I always use the sleep function too which avoids the radio playing through the night. If it had an alarm clock it would be even better though. It has found several stations I had never heard of, and to date I have never needed the aerial extending.

I am still as happy with my purchase as the day I received it, a brilliant buy, and worth every penny.

I don't get decent fm reception where I live, but with this little chap I'm perfectly happy listening to what I want.

The sound quality is great, it looks smart and I have superb reception without needing to have the aerial out (one of my bugbears as I always seem to knock them and lose reception).

Set up wasn't tricky, but you do have to press a couple of buttons and twiddle the middle bit when you want to change station. If like me though you pretty much have your favourite one that's on most of the time, this isn't a big issue.

I can't really see why it not having an off button is a major problem - surely if you have to press a button to turn it off, just flicking the switch at the power point isn't too much trouble? That seems like a very minor point to be sending it back for, when it really is a lovely little radio.

 "no on/off switch" 2008-07-19
By M (UK)
Don't know (yet) if this applies to all DAB radios, but the Pure One has no way to turn it off except by unplugging it! It has a 'standby' button, but even in 'economy mode' it continues to draw power (1W) even when not in use! As we are all being urged not to leave our TVs on standby, for very good reasons, I can't believe Pure are producing a radio that can't be turned off. I'm sending it back.
