Bought this present for my sister who had never heard of "DAB" before.
I've got 2 other Roberts DAB radios and for those who are reading this and who know nothing about DAB, it stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting. Many of you will be familiar with AM or MW radios and VHF or FM radios where the reception can be described as, to put it politely, "dodgy". For example, has your partner/sibling/ mate ever tried listening to Radio 5 Live on AM? Perhaps that important football match....the last few minutes.....it disappears into a sea of hiss? NOT WITH DAB! All crystal clear and you've got one VERY happy partner/sibling/mate!
When you read the product description for this radio some of you may panic, DON'T!
The following is all you need to:
1) get it out of its box.
2) attach the mains lead (the black wire with a plug at one end) to the back of the radio.
3) Plug it into the plug socket.
4) turn the radio on
5) wait!
The radio automatically tunes itself into all the available DAB stations in your area and sets the time/date in a few minutes.
6) turn the right hand knob and listen to each station in turn. Each Radio station is arranged in the order of the alphabet.
7) any station you like you can pre-set by pressing on of the 5 square buttons under the display.
8) if it is too loud or soft turn the left hand knob until you're happy!
Easy!
Who to buy it for? Well, for someone who likes listening to Radios....Someone who loves Sport eg Football, Cricket etc , all crystal clear! I listen to BBC Radio 5 Live and Radio 5 Sports Extra especially for the cricket which is difficult to hear on Long Wave! BBC Radio 4 is also one of my favourites and BBC Radio 7 is my choice after 10.00pm with its choice of old BBC comedy programmes. "Round The Horn", "The Navy Lark" and "I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again" bring back great memories and laughs!
You know who you're buying for and his or her interests. You can't go wrong with this!
When I had set up my sister's radio and listened to it I wanted to take it back with me!
It was that good!

I bought this direct from Roberts at around Christmas. It looks great. Sound is very good, if a little. brittle. Scanning is easy; the radio keeps time excellently. The "sleep " mode - important for me - is dependable. Where the apparatus falls short of expectation for me is in the alarm modes (again, important for me): they consistently malfunction. I returned the set to Roberts for repair. Three weeks later I got it back with a meaningless report concluding that there was nothing wrong with the set. Since then it has gone from bad to worse: either alarm, set for 7am on DAB, seldom works as it is supposed to. And Roberts' custom service ain't up to scratch. Conclusion: not quite good value for money. I'll choose a different make next time.

Bought this radio on the strength of growing up listening to an old Roberts radio my dad had. Remembered how good the sound was, and the quality build of it. Decided to go digital recently and so went for this model. Absolutely brilliant piece of kit. Love the range, the sound quality and the beautiful build quality. If you are looking for an easy to use, quality DAB radio then look no further, you wont be disappointed!

My previous Roberts analogue clock radio for some reason started giving very distorted sound. I tried to replace the internal speaker but couldnt manage it. I spent some time looking for a replacement and discovered the "Sound 80" on Amazon. I read the reviews and having looked at the spec on Roberts' Website ordered from Amazon.
The product seems very well made and has an attractive, if slightly retro design. When powered up the device set the time and day straight away. Scanning for stations on both DAB and FM was straight forward and storing them on the preset buttons was a doddle although I would have liked more than 5 on each waveband.
The sound quality is excellent, the three speaker design giving a rich sound. It should be noted there is no tone control but the shipped setting suits me fine.
The DAB tuner is excellent and in my relatively weak signal area found good signal strength on a large number of stations. The BBC stations were so strong that it was not necessary to have the aerial extended. However, the FM tuner is a different story. It was unable to tune a number of stations that my other VHF radios in the house manage with ease. This surprised me as I thought if anything the DAB tuner would be weakest.
The display is good, with a rather pleasant blue tone which at default setting is rather bright but this can be easily altered using the push button on the fascia.
The twin alarm options are good but setting them could have been made much easier. It involves pressing the alarm button on the fascia then pressing in and turning the large tuning knob. I found this a bit of a fiddle and if you fail to complete any action within 5 seconds the alarm setting cancels.
Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. The sound quality is so good that I find myself listening to it every night before going to sleep. I turn on the sleep function and nod off to the sound of Radio 2 with the radio turning itself off after 15 minutes. I warmly recommend the "Sound 80" to everyone.

My wife and I have had a radio in the bedroom for years, so when the time came to change it we were faced with a dilema. What do we buy.Well we are the proud owners of a Bose system . However due to the expence involved it was decided not to purchase another one. After much research we settled for the Roberts Sound 80 DAB radio, and what a great choice that has turned out to be. It looks great with in its highly polished black wooden case. The sound that comes from it is wonderful, and it is so easy to operate. The sound reproduction is every bit as good as the Bose, and the radio cost a fraction of the price of the Bose.
All in all anyone who wants or needs a new radio, look no further, the Roberts sound 80 must surely be the one to go for. The price from Amazon is exceptional, and the service as usual was first class. I ordered the radio late one Sunday evening, and it was delivered first thing Tuesday morning. You cannot get better than that.
