 "Greener radio" 2010-05-31
By Pippa M (Wiltshire UK)
This is the second Roberts solar radio I've purchased. This one was a present for my son. They are great - really good quality sound and very easy to use. We use ours for working in the garden with the radio charging itself up in the sun while we listen to all our favourite DAB stations. It will also recharge in the sun when switched off and indoors if there is no sun the batteries can be charged from the mains. The display is clear and the overall compact size and weight of the radio make it a very handy indoor and outdoor item.

 "now on my 3rd!" 2010-05-29
By J. D. Pallant (uk)
having bought a exdisplay unit from hughes i discovered that the charging unit was faulty, even in full sunshine the unit was not charging up, sent this back, got refund and decided that i would bite the bullet and get a brand new unit from amazon. the unit has now been plugged in for almost a week and the battery bar indicates its still being charged! it should take about 24 hours, so i am know in the process of returning and getting a replacement from amazon and hopefully 3rd time lucky, the radio is just what i need, small, good sound, light, and powered by solar, you don,t expect such problems from manufacturer like Roberts but will give it one more try and hopefully have a unit that works properly

"Free to run fun radio" 2010-04-27
By A. Jackson
I've had the white version of this radio for a month now and it has been in use every day. After the initial charge of the battery, it has run on free sunlight since, even on a north facing window sill. I put it in full sun once a week to keep it topped up. Very easy to tune into preset station mode and, even though I'm in a digitally weak reception area, I can still fill all the pre-sets. It is a doddle to change stations in a few seconds by pressing a couple of buttons. My only slight criticism, which stopped me awarding 5 stars, is that there is no tone control. For the size of the speaker the sound is pretty well balanced for music and has a nice tone, but for speech it is a little 'boomy' and could do with a treble control. Other than that, it's a great little portable, built to Roberts normal high standard, that I'm happy to recommend. I might even get another one for the workshop where the wife can't fiddle with it!

 "Just turned it on!!" 2010-04-21
By C. Ballard (London)
I bought this radio for my mum's birthday, as she still had an old analogue radio.

Info: I live close to Heathrow Airport. And I pick up all stations.

When I plugged the radio in, it started searching for stations, and I selected Magic, and I was really surprised on the clear sound!! AND I had forgot to screw the aerial in!! And yet the sound was clear, so for the moment the aerial is still in its storage compartment at the back of the radio.

I am just waiting for the sun to hit my windowsill.

The radio is small and compact. I would describe it as cute. The controls feel really nice to press because they are soft and smooth.

The volume is really good, and it goes up really high. I haven't been able to turn it ALL the way up because it seriously gets too loud for my ears!!

I was a bit scared when I bought this item for a gift for my mum, as I wasn't sure I would pick up all the channels, and I didn't want it to be a disappointment. And thankfully it hasn't been :)

Right the sun is almost hitting my windowsill. So I am off to watch the solar power bar grow haha!

 "Fun in the sun" 2010-04-05

A great little radio if you have a sunny windowsill on which to keep it - I've used mine for about 45 mins each day during the winter and apart from the initial charge I've only had to top it up from the mains once. On gloomier days it helps if you tilt the radio towards the light - the aerial is sturdy enough to lean on. Could be improved by slightly quicker tuning (my Pure Tempus switches between stations much more quickly) and a less fiddly method of selecting preset stations, but otherwise I'm very pleased with it.
