"Looks odd but works well" 2010-05-25
By Foreclose Mallory (N. Yorks)
When I reviewed this for PURE shortly after buying it, I said the antenna supplied appeared to need familiarity with the Indian Rope Trick. After I managed to attach the end of the little bit of wire that claims to be an aerial to a bit of my bedside lamp in a more or less vertical position by tying it round something (and thereby shortening it a bit) I managed to get all the DAB stations I wanted except Classic FM --- which I found by switching to FM. Can't help thinking that a rigid telescopic aerial with 180 degree movement in a vertical plane and the same in a horizontl plane as used on practically every other radio I've ever come across would have been better. Of course it might have increased the price marginally .....

 "perhaps I was unlucky" 2010-05-11
By Mr. Ar Blundell (Chelmsford area -- UK)
Perhaps i was unlucky but the PURE Chronos II DAB radio alarm was delivered with a europlug

which of course makes it totally unuseable within the UK. Obviously I had to return the item.

"Must buy DAB Alarm Clock!" 2010-04-28
By J. Richmond (Glasgow, Scotland)
Just got this yesterday and I am well impressed. Uncoiled aerial lead, plugged into mains and off it went taking around 2 minutes to find around 40 stations, (Glasgow area)....that easy! Didn't even need to open the manual supplied.

I like the shape and look of it, the buttons are big so no fiddling around, the sound quality is really good and the display is great. I love the scrolling text with the song info....no more wracking brain to remember who sang it. Some people have complained about the display brightness but I could not, for the life of me, understand why. I sat it on my bedside table, put it on auto and had it pointing directly at me and fell asleep facing it. I have had tremendous trouble with displays being too bright in the past and have had to do the old 'book in front of the clock' trick, which kind of defeats the purpose, but no so with the Pure Chronos II.

There are so many good aspects of this alarm clock that other people have listed that I won't repeat them here and I am only a novice, but I will back up the issue over cancelling the alarm if you wake up before it goes off. Five buttons presses to cancel does seem a bit excessive and when you have just woken up....easy to make a mistake. But this was my only bugbear and I will certainly live with it....I'll just get into the habit of ALARM, SELECT, SELECT, +, SELECT if required!

P.S. If there is an easier way I have missed then please let me know.

 "Minor issues with reception" 2010-04-27
By T. Anderson (UK)
Works well, simple to operate, good price, just occasionally the signal strength is below par and it is difficult to see why as it is always in same location.

 "Very pleased" 2010-03-19
By Tricky Dick
Hi,

I tried a display model in Dixons and wasn't impressed as the reception was terrible. However, I bought one on the strength of the reviews on Amazon and found it to be excellent. It autotuned in with no problems, and I get excellent reception on all channels. It looks great on my bedside cabinet too.

I'm can be a light sleeper but find no problems with the brightness of the display when set to 'dim' or 'auto', and turning the display slightly away from the pillow. And I like my bedroom pitch-black.

I haven't turned it up loud for music yet, but then the ability to pump loud hi-fi quality tunes is not what I would expect from this type or price of product.
