I agree with the other review that this radio alarm is rubbish. A complete waste of money and if I hadn't thrown out the box I would have returned it. Far too complicated and the off button is so well hidden as to be almost non existent!

One annoying deficiency not mentioned by earlier reviewers is that the radio reverts to a default volume every time it is switched off.

it seems some ther reveiwers are not happy with this radio. fair enough. i quite like it though! i do agree that the screen is a little bright (but so was my last clock, so i angle it away from my eye line), but that's about it. the controls are a little fiddly, but like any other product you soon learn the layout, in my case in the dark and robert's ya father's brother! as to the ipod link, it depends what you're after. i have a dock for when i fancy a blast, but my wife i and only want a clock radio to provide gentle back ground music (steady!) to be able to drift off to sleep too, so it doesn't need to be loud. plus the built in jack plug is simple to connect to your ipod/mp3 player, it doesn't charge, but i don't want it to because my ipod classic has a long battery life and i don't want to fry it with constant charging. the radio seems to work brilliantly, the reception is great and it tuned itself and set the time instantly (you can select 12h too). Great for following the cricket and getting stations like nme etc.
if you want an all singing, all dancing dock to blast music, go and buy one. if you want a nice, simple and very compact dab clock radio, that's good value for money, buy this bad boy!

there are two very bad things about this radio.
first one is that the display has only two brightness settings so it is too bright at night even at the lower setting. It only looks ok in daylight, also the clock is only half the size of display and it does not show date. LCD backlit displays are simply not good for clock radios.should be LED.
Second thing, the sleep timer is equipped with a a drift off function which can not be turned off so the sound keeps fading away gradually.. I find it quite annoying.
It has an mp3 input jack to connect external player and play music on its built in 1 watt mono speaker.. what is the point !!??.
You can not use it to connect to hi fi.
The menu is complicated and not intuitive.
The only good things i can say about this radio are.. build quality is good and the radio reception is excellent for both fm and dab.

Philips AJB4500/05 Clock Radio - White
This is a very rubbish product. First its hard to find the right controls. The radio is white, the controls are white, and have the icon for their function engraved into top - in white. So they are invisible unless you get the light at the right angle - hard to do first thing in the morning. There are also too many of them and they are very unintuitive.
The main thing, however, is that mine stopped working within five weeks. The display went crazy and the radio didn't work any more. Overall this is cheap tat that lets down the Philips name very badly indeed.
